Preview of the Clonakilty Waterfront 10 km road race...

This 10 km road race is held in early December every year as part of the Clonakilty Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10k.

Location....Clonakilty is located some 40 kms to the south-west of Cork City...

Map of the course...

Course description....The race starts in the town of Clonakilty and proceeds southwards towards Inchydoney.

The first 2.5 miles are essentially flat and fast. At 2.5 mile as can be seen on the map above, the course turns inland...

This is the start of a reasonably tough hill which is about 400 metres long. By the time you get to the start of the small loop at 2.8 miles, the course levels out...

It then rises again and at the most eastern part of the loop drops very rapidly at about 3.1 miles..

On the lower section of this small loop, it is mostly dead flat except for the very end where there is a very steep but short climb...

Once you complete the loop, you are at 3.5 miles. From here, it's downhill to the waters edge and the last 2.5 miles are more or less flat to the finish line back in Clonakilty.

Overall......Very scenic course looking out over the harbour and the ocean. Mostly flat except for a section between 2.5 and 3.5 miles. Maybe not as fast as a dead flat course but you should still expect to set a reasonable time.
